Ada Woodson Adams, retired, the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson, was born in Nelsonville, Ohio; was a graduate of the Nelsonville school system; attended Ohio University and earned a B. S. degree in Education. She also took graduate-level classes at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She was a teacher, grocery store department manager and a neighborhood grocery store owner. Ada has served on many boards, the latest being the Multicultural Genealogical Center in Chesterhill, Ohio. She has been a girl's basketball and softball coach. Ada also was a participant in the Athens County Senior Olympics, which was one of her achieved goals. She is Co-Chairperson of the Wallpaper Project Play in Morgan County, Ohio. She is interested in the study of history as it relates to family, reading, listening to family stories, sports and going places. Married to Alvin Adams and they are the parents of a daughter and a son, Amelia and A. Clay. |

Mildred Vore retired from DuPont Co., Parkersburg, WVA in 2000. She
received an Associate In Arts Degree from Ohio University and has taken
several accounting classes at Marietta College. She is treasurer of the
Multicultural Genealogical Center, a board member of Federal Valley
Resource Center, treasurer of Kilvert Church Of God, and was co-chair of
the
Morgan County Wallpaper Project committee. She enjoys the activities
at the Marietta Senior Center, traveling, playing volleyball, and music.
She
is married to Harry Vore and has a daughter, Stacey, and a son, Todd. |

Al was born at the foot of Carr Hill in Morgan County, Ohio, on April 30, 1937; the son of Alvin Clay Adams and Ada Blanche Holbert Adams. He grew up mostly in Athens County, Ohio. On July 9, 1960 he married Ada Woodson, of Nelsonville, a descendant of Thomas Woodson who is the son of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson (third president of the United States of America). Al is believed to be the first person of color to earn a journalism degree from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio (1959). In 2003 he was honored with the L. J. Horton Distinguished Alumnus Award from the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. He is a former reporter at the Chicago Defender and former associate editor, Jet magazine during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. He also has worked for Federal and State (Illinois) government and has 30 years' experience as a public relations practitioner. He helped co-found two minority genealogy groups, including the Multicultural Genealogical Center, located in Chesterhill, Ohio, which he currently serves as president. Al is an amateur historian, genealogist, photographer, public speaker and writer;author of several publications, including Hold Tight to the Hames Episodes of Life in Athens County. This book, re-issued in 2003, chronicles his growing up as a black kid in rural white America. His abstract art photography has been exhibited in three states, and some of his work is owned by the Zanesville Art Center. |

Nancy E. Aiken was born in Portsmouth, Ohio 20 June 1943 as Nancy Ellen Bryan. She married David V. Aiken 3 July 1965; they have two daughters. Nancy has a BFA (1965), a Masters of Liberal Studies (1982), and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Ohio University (1992). She is a published author and an exhibiting artist. She and Michel Perdreau have published a number of articles and a book, Annotated Edition of the History of the Jones Family by John L. Jones (Heritage Books), on the history of African-Americans in Southeastern Ohio. She has published articles on genealogical research in The Genealogical Helper and Heritage Quest and has completed several books for the Athens County (Ohio) Historical Society and Museum. She is past-president of the Athens County Genealogical Chapter of O.G.S. and past-publications chair for the Ohio Genealogical Society. She served for several years as the chair of First Families of Athens County, Ohio. She is currently publications chair for MGC. |

Junior was born on Haga Ridge in Athens County Ohio, on May 1, 1951; the
son of Leslie Ray Walker and Beulah Fern Tabler Walker. He left home in
his early twenties and married Karen Stevens. No children as of today have
been born to this couple but many children do they claim. He is an
ordained minister and pastor of the Apostolic Pentecostal Tabernacle of
Chesterhill, Ohio since 1992. He was forced into retirement by the closing
of the factory at which he had worked for thirty years. He graduated from
the Federal Hocking High School and the Tri-County Joint Vocational School
in 1970. On September 22, 2003 he complete a years study at the Washington
County Career Center and is currently seeking his CCNA certification from
the Cisco Networking Systems. He is a member of the founding board of the
Multicultural Genealogical Center. |
